Good Morning

I took the day off...two Fridays in a row! I felt like breakfast but wanted someone else to cook it.

So I drive the Jeep into downtown Midland. This is our only light and the hub of local commerce.

I tried a place that is fairly new. Simple food, clean, good service. The locals were in there talking very vocally about politics. I picked up on some local news and history too without me saying a word.

They didn't much care for the President here.

The drive home I pass a huge field of feed corn. It is about time to harvest.

This is our one and only track. A train comes by maybe twice a day. I love the sound of a train. This is walking distance from my home.

What Kind of Friend Am I?

If you go to federal prison, I'll come and visit you.

Tanner Hunnicutt
Last evening, the body of a hen known as Linoleum Foster, was found under the ramp from the coop to the hen house.

Chief of security Tanner Hunnicutt is investigating.

Tanner indicated that he suspects fowl play.

Rick

This is my friends dog, Rick. He looks like Rod Stewart and I think he is gay....not that there is anything wrong with that.

I can attest that Rick have very pungent gas.

Way Back Machine

My dad used to smoke Chesterfield Cigarettes. The package looks so familiar.

My hometown of Durham wreaked of tobacco, and I liked that smell. The cigarettes were made locally at Leggett and Meyers Tobacco Company. We also had American Tobacco Company.

Been a Great Day Off

The weather is perfect. It is in the 80s and the humidity is low. Ideal wReggie weather.

The Jeep made a reappearance and so did a long ride in the country.

I even did a little work sanding the joints on my patio. I have a lot more sweeping to do. It goes well with beer. The sweeping part.

Lets Do It

Lets get some fancy blue pimp suits, fro wigs, and a big rubber band.

Starts out a bit stiff, but gets in the groove towards the end.

Pizza Mod - Always Thinking

I have seen this pizza oven modification discussed recently whereby a thermal mass is added overhead, and a reduction of total volume increases and distributes heat better than the original design.

This is not my oven but I have the tools necessary on hand, and I am not afraid to try for the sake of humanity. Look at that pie.....just look at it!

Plan C

In the back of my mind I wanted one last diving fling before the fall season set in. In the past,  I have flown down to STX and done this over Labor Day weekend. One of those fall trips a tropical depression set in and ruined a few days and disrupted diving for most of the trip.

This year if I did make the trip it would be last minute weather permitting. Well, 2 storms are coming.

Plan B was to tag along and go to Key Largo with Divers Supply. Guess what? 2 storms are coming.

Plan C is to drive down to Lake Jocassie and dive the graveyard. This time of year the water is down so the graveyard is about 115 feet under water rather than 130 at full pond.

I do have a plan D if that doesn't get off the ground.

Good News

My place of employment (sort of, but it is complicated) called me and asked, "wReggie, do you recall getting a big ass check last year around February?"

I sad, "No."

"Well good, because you never cashed it. We will send another."

I asked, "Did I already pay the taxes on it?"

And they relied, "Yes."

The check came today. A good day I tells ya.

The Good and Bad

It was a great weekend. There was a game Friday with tailgating and friends. Saturday was leisure time with Gigi. Sunday was a two tank dive with my old dive buddy from my first dive class.

However, what really settled heavy my mind was a rash of violence that broke out Saturday night on St Croix. In separate incidents there was gunfire, robbery of locals and tourists, and a killing.

Why does this have to be a way of life on Caribbean islands?

Reasons I like the VI

They only crack down at low season. Otherwise it is okay to have an open beer.

Rum is the local soup.

Islanders are practical.

Folks are nice enough to take their donkey for a ride. I recognize this as Ziggy Mart where they have great Johnny Cakes.

Last Home Preseason Game

What could be better? Catching up with old friends.

Great food.

Pretty ladies.

And good old pinhead.

Plus, we beat Miami!

Cat Postulate

We use big plastic bins to store dog and cat food.

This morning I was pouring cat food in the bin and thought it would be clever to use the empty bag to clean out the cat box.

As I was scooping, I thought how futile this effort was. I pay good money to buy cat food and supplies, and in turn, they make shit.

The return on my investment should be enjoyment that the cat could supply, clearly out weighing the cost of food and shit cleanup.

It is a no brainer with a dog. A dog bubbles over in entertainment value, far beyond mire shit and cost of food.

But a cat?

A Wicked Second Sleep

I am a master sleeper. Seriously, I could be a sleep coach.

Recently it was revealed to me that prior to the electric light, humans had two sleep periods in the night.

Two sleep periods are normal.

The first period would be soon after eating and sundown. One would sleep until they woke up hours later….the first sleep. Then there would be a quite period, perhaps reading, sex, meditation, praying or some other activity until one fell into their second sleep.

The second sleep was a deep REM sleep.

As I get older, I tend to go to bed earlier and have a period of wakefulness in the night. Now I know it is normal.

I take great naps too which is normal and healthy!

A Picture

Here is but a small section of the center table in our kitchen. We use this table to prep meals.  So what does this say about us?

Gigi loves sweets, and Sweet 16s are one of her favorites. She needs to finish these by August 24.

I love veggies and fruit. I didn’t always like veggies and fruit but I do now.

We are at the Free Stone cycle of peaches. Free Stones are a different variety of peach that ripens late in the season. The big pit is easy to remove hence the name. This big fella needs another day or so to ripen.

Tomatoes are perfect now. This guy will disappear this morning with breakfast. I do tomatoes with breakfast but Gigi has rules against tomatoes for breakfast.

Then there are the dog’s pills and a plunger. Cedie has epilepsy and requires two different medications twice daily.

Help Please

Okay….what do I do now? I finished my Steve Jobs biography…read it cover to cover, or I should say electron to electron.

I would hit it for about 15 minutes a day and enjoyed the read very much.

But I’m not a reader however I have cut some pathways that desire more. What to read now? I prefer electronic versions.

Bonus question for a Hot Dog…. How does a man make an extension cord loop up so it doesn’t tangle?  I really need to master this before I die.

First Test

It was good to be back out at the stadium. We have quite the assortment of wing sauce.

Hot dogs and wings were flowing.

Hungry young lads line up for tailgate chow.

The smells were so rich. When I removed this lid the smells wafted throughout the parking lot.

My buddy Kevin showed up for the tailgate....2 inches taller.

Settling into the bowl. This is where BO will be in a few weeks with Barney Frank and the boys.

This same stupid idiot with a pinhead and an out dated jersey took his place. He is here every game.

I watched the first string offense do their thing.

I hit the road and watched the rest from my home skybox.

A fun day indeed.

On the Cusp of Greatness?

Today I am flying without a parachute. By the end of the day, I could be the Steve Jobs of wings, or a colossal failure, because I have only tested this recipe in my mind.

This is the new stuff…..I have chicken wings marinating in garlic infused olive oil, with Old Bay seasoning, and McCormick Montreal Chicken Seasoning.

This is tried and true…..These wings will be seared over hot charcoal then set aside to cook indirectly with hickory smoke for about 44 minutes.

Old Bay….don’t let me down.

I Have a Huge Problem

This morning I took a full load of invisible hogs to the local market. The vet there inspected them and informed me that they all had mental illness and couldn't be slaughtered.

What in the heck am I going to do with 8 invisible hogs?

You see my problem?

I Am Absorbed

As you know, I am not a big reader of books. I do read constantly online about news, blogs, trends and sports.

But I can't seem to put down this "book" about Steve Jobs and his magical devices that he invented.

Yesterday I purchased Apple TV and Apple Airport Express. This is in addition to my iPad, iPod, iPhone, Mac Mini.

I have no regrets because these are truly wonderful devices that I use every day.

Bondo to the Rescue

The first preseason NFL game is tonight and I was panicked because my screen room was not just like I wanted it.

The TV was mounted too tight in the corner and this made the side rub on the shades. Because of this I couldn't operate the shades.

Yesterday Phfrankie Bondo and I were discussing things while on FaceTime. I was showing him around the place when my problem was shown to him. He immediately gave the idea to hang a board vertically and the remount the TV.

Problem solved.

Bondo is the Frank Lloyd Wright of 2 by 4 and 2 by 6. Thank you Mr. Bondo.
