This is Not a Good Economy

U.S. stands out as a rich country where a growing minority say they can’t afford food.

Don't let a good stock market fool you into false optimism.

The United States is an outlier from this pattern. Despite being the richest country in the survey, nearly a quarter of Americans (24%) say they had trouble putting food on the table in the past 12 months. This is up from just 16% who reported such deprivation in 2007, the year before the Great Recession began.

Why do all I see is fat people? I'm confused.

I'd say a few things here, the first commenter hit bulls-eye in the fact that the government no longer caters to the people, it caters to the lobbyist's, the large corporations and banks, far from the actual needs of it's people in a true democracy.

Mikki and Stefanie bring up the second point, the food being presented to the people (large corporate supermarkets) is mostly crap at inflated prices, like candy to a baby. The quality food choices are the most expensive in the store.

And a third point, since the beginning of the Cheney years, wages stayed flat, job benefits declined or became way more costly, large corporations started the new game of letting long time employees "go" just before their pension kicked in, all the while the banks opened their doors to an unsuspecting middle class market. Now wages are actually going down on the lower middle class, with almost no benefits offered. The lower classes are being lowered. It's really quite simple, you shouldn't be confused.

Huh?

Was Cheny president? I thought he was a gay rights guy. You might want to double check that.

I spinning or someone sure is.

Try and go to your local produce markets and prices are through the roof. Beef is outa sight even if bought from a farmer.

We don't have a true democracy and never did. It is representive. Dont set yourself up for disappointment thinking it is a demacracy.
