You should ask the people who have a problem with him being 1/2 black (and, for that matter, those who have a problem with him being half white too, earlier in his political career, he was criticized by some for not being 'black' enough, just goes to show some people can't be pleased).

JC followed up the "for being a black man" with "for being African-American" which Obama actually is. That label, for lack of a better word, fits him more precisely that it does the vast majority of Americans who consider themselves African-American. Most are Americans with African ancestors. They are no more African-Americans than I am Russian-American, Irish-American, British-American, German-American or Native-Alaskan-American. But everybody seems to want to label themselves and others. Whatever.Michaelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01284109771398630099noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28837228.post-84654312908838321322009-09-20T19:03:30.493-04:002009-09-20T19:03:30.493-04:00Well said....but he is 1/2 white. Why is he black?...Well said....but he is 1/2 white. Why is he black? Is he 51% black or is any black make him black?Reggie Hunnicutthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16225585623322034210noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28837228.post-52096135470201093432009-09-20T18:43:49.125-04:002009-09-20T18:43:49.125-04:00"I think an overwhelming portion of the inten..."I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man."

Those were his exact words.

Now I know there are a couple big words in that one sentence, so I'll translate it into one and two syllables for you folks lacking a decent look-em-up book, and the rest of the world. But first I'll tell you what he didn't say. He didn't say, "the majority of the people that oppose the President do so because President Obama is black". He didn't say, "If you oppose Obama, you're a racist". Unlike, say, under the previous administration, when a number of republicans, including the president himself, said, at many times and in many ways, if you oppose the president, you're a terrorist and/or a traitor.

So lets look at what he actually said. "I think an overwhelming portion (a big bit, a large number, a bunch) of intensely demonstrated (very vocal, loud, aggressive, passionate) animosity (hostility, extreme dislike, hatred, malice) toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact he is a black man."

In short, he thinks a large amount of the very aggressive hatred toward the President may be linked to racism. That's a far cry from "anyone who opposes Obama is racist". If that's what you heard, you weren't listening, or you heard what you wanted to hear, or you heard what some right wingnut talking head told you you were supposed to hear. But you didn't hear what he said. I suggest taking the Jimmy-hating filters out of your ears and listening to what the man actually said.

He expressed concern over a phenomenon he's observed. I've observed the same thing and am also concerned. Not that everyone who disagrees with the president is racist, but that racists among us are using their opposition, exacerbated by lies, to spread fear and hatred, and foment more misdirected opposition.

PS Sorry, I used more big words, guess you'll have to go the look-em-up book after all.Michaelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01284109771398630099noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28837228.post-13043896649704687972009-09-20T12:30:39.745-04:002009-09-20T12:30:39.745-04:00I would love to know what he meant and so would th...I would love to know what he meant and so would the rest of the world.

I stay clear of politics except for Jimmy Carter.

He is the equivalent of Sara Palin and Dick Chaney rolled into one magical liberal. This is, to my mind, a very insidious form of racism in itself.

I don't like Obama - not because of his colour (I always hoped that Jesse Jackson would get to the Whitehouse) but because of what he is doing and how he is doing it.Rock Chefhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11259561583833857901noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28837228.post-88597815474844319432009-09-18T09:41:02.475-04:002009-09-18T09:41:02.475-04:00Your absolutley right he's just starting troub...Your absolutley right he's just starting trouble.
