I'll Shut Up

It is no secret that I hate winter.

Just yesterday my friend Ty openly declared he hated long shadows. His voice held fear and panic of pending doom. I knew what he was talking about.

On the other hand I have dear friends that love the cold and darkness of winter. Just now they are seemingly coming to life.

They are all excited about Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, snow or driving to the mountains to see snow, skiing, open fires and whatever cold lovers do during this period of depression and gloom.

As a child I loved this stuff too. Somewhere the darkness began to effect my mood and the cold started hurting my skin and bones.

I have learned to cope. I stay mentally on vacation on an island.

This year I promise not to gripe about what I can't change.

I love "nice" winter - frosts, snow, cold, still days, snuggling down in a warm house when it is cold outside.

I hate "nasty" winter - strong winds, heavy rain, ice on roads, dark mornings...

I will try not to complain about the nasty stuff too!

I've never experienced snow falls and winter as you describe it in my place. And I, at times, long to be in a place where it snows and stuff.

Put on my first long sleeve thermal undershirt for the season...

I don't love it!

Moving to NC from Mi last Feb., I can tell you, that is real winter. I was from Mid Mi. and my husband from northern Mi. Skiing, Snowmobile racing, ice skating, not for me. Air so cold the snow squeeks when you step on it. Day upon day of no sun. At least here, I noticed, the sun comes out. To me, this is a breeze. To you it is bitter. ( and it is not pretty turqoise water) What I left is "nasty" winter I will use that Rock chef.

I'm in your camp. And I make no promises, but I'm really going to try to find a way to .... dare I say... enjoy the winter.
