But as far as my wife is concerned she is content to throw in the towel the night before and surrender to the inevitable, prematurely in my opinion.
On the last day I want to live in denial and I would prefer a leisurely breakfast, maybe some swimming and snorkeling, and perhaps a final ride to a cliff to watch some waves crash. Followed by a ceremonial cocktail, and then off to the airport for one of their famous hot dogs and a can of Budweiser.
A few years ago I scheduled an early morning round of golf the last day but cancelled it after I got this ugly look from the misses.
In reality it does take some extra time going through customs when you leave. But I could easily play until 1 PM, shower, head toward town, grab some lunch on the boardwalk, and then head to the airport.
Oh yeah, this is a picture of the last day a few years ago when Gigi had to use a steak knife to pick out a wedged goat bone stuck in my molar.

Oh my god! It it ESSENTIAL to use ALL of your alloted island time for your maximum enjoyment of islandy things!
Before I lived here, even though I was really poor, I used to visit St. Croix twice a year. One of my favorite things was to go right from the beach to the airport on the last vacation day. I was salty and sandy, but I didn't care. I wanted that island feeling to last as long as possible.
Until I read through the whole post I thought the picture was of Gigi forcing meds down your throat until you were sedate enough to drag you off to the airport.
It's just like in Vegas. You have to use up all the time you have. Last time I was in vegas I stayed up the whole last night there, ran up to my room in the morning and grabbed my bag, checked out and then had a big breakfast and hit the black jack tables until it was absolutely time to grab a cab to the airport. Hell, I even turned my car in the night before just so that wouldn't ruin my last morning there.
Same concept on the island. You must go straight from the beach to the airport. That's just the way it should be. And you should have a couple of cocktails before going to the airport too. Good plan.
Oh, now I remembe! That picture is from one of those (ahem) lovely reef condos (I was trying to figure that out, but it finally just hit me!)
Golfing there would be just a few steps out the door!
Maybe we could mini golf just before you leave this time. Or. hmmm, let's see, it'll be two days before my birthday, so we DEFINITELY need to do some serious partying. We gotta work n this.....
Ooops! I was typing too fast there and missed a few letters! I think you get the drift, though....
Woo hoo! My beef jerky just came in!
We'll have to get you some tooth picks ;)!
Gigi sure is nice to you. Either that or you are way too trusting. My husband wouldn't let me near his mouth with a knife in hand. And I'm pretty sure I'd make him figure it out on his own anyway.
Oh You have NO idea what I have to deal with while Reg 'frolics' on the dreaded day of return home!!!
All his crap is 'helter-skelter' & if I wasn't the 'adult' we'd never get on the plane.
Plus it is usually freezing when we get back so I hate to break it to all you 'children' but someone has to prepare because Reg is definately not a 'jump on the plane w/salt & sand on him' kind of guy!I have to prep him for his Fun & his clean-up process,so don't let Him fool you :), the reason he is so damn carefree is because he has me ,aka "the Wife" taking care of him!
Also,I had every kind of dental instrument w/me (floss, toothpicks, those brush-picks,etc) & nothing would work on that piece of goat bone except we finally resorted to the steak knife since I have no professional dental instruments.
Always 2 sides to a story!!!
Hey Gigi....what are you doing reading my blog?
Okay, I've got it! Wgigi's "island nickname" can be "Wmommy"
I LOVE THAT GIGI SPOKE!! Yah.
This picture reminding me of the last camping trip that we went on, my bracket broke (I have braces) and the inside of my mouth was tore up. After 3 days of agony, I finally had my hubby go in there with a pair of plires out of his tool box and completely cut out the top wire of my braces! Guess I should have taken a picture...
did u try a tooth pick
You definitely have most of a day to play with before heading to the airport. You're lucky your flight is so late. The time Terry and I went to Utah for Christmas I left a few days before her and had an EARLY morning flight. There was a beach bonfire at Southgate beach the night before. Rather than stay home and pack and go to bed early, we went to the beach party until the middle of the night. Then I just stayed up to pack while Terry got a couple hours sleep. I figured I could sleep on the flights.
